How to do a bar plot with Pandas using Python

1 min

Bar plots are one of the simplest plots you can do to display differences between certain variables.

Here is a super simple example of a bar plot, using the Pandas library.

# We import pandas to create our dataframe
import pandas as pd

# We create our sample dataframe
df = pd.DataFrame(data={"grade" : [15,13,17,20],
                        "name" : ["John","Fritz","James","Jessica"]})

# We plot our dataframe
df.plot(kind="bar", x="name", y="grade")

As we can see we are using the DataFrame.plot() method and passing a kind="bar" argument along with the x and the y parameters.

In this example, we are plotting the grade per student.

Here is the result.
