You can count the number of occurrences of a DataFrame column the .value_counts() method.

import pandas as pd

# We create our example dataframe
df = pd.DataFrame({"countries" :  ["Germany", "USA", "Germany", "France"]})

# We print the number of unique occurences 
print(df["countries"].value_counts())
